NASA warns humanity, that more mankind posses more threat of extinction by a catastrophic supervolcano eruption rather than an asteroid hitting earth.
According, to the research of Jet Propulsion Laboratory researchers,
the collisions of asteriods with earths surface that have diameter more than 2Km occured less than the supervolcanic erruptions.
This ensures the fact that humanity posses more threat from supervolcanic eruptions.
What is a Supervolcano?
As per NASA, a supervolcano is a volcano that is huge enough to cause a destructive eruption that could throw away more than 1000 Km3 of debris in the atmosphere.
The Yellowstone Caldera is classified as a supervolcano.
Lastly, it erupted 60000 years ago, and again 60000 before that. Scientists and researchers have been trying to predict the next eruption,
But as we know predictions are not always accurate and true and so there is no guarantee that the pattern will remain the same. According, to the researchers, if a supervolcano like the Yellowstone Caldera erupts then it will cause massive destruction and devastation.
Food scarcity will ensue as the eruption would bring a “Volcanic Winter”, and humanity will not have any chance to survive from the aftermaths of the eruption.
Apart from the threat of supervolcanic eruption, a massive number of minor earthquakes and tectonic actions occurs every year.
At an average, this region approximately is observing 1000-2000 minor earthquakes of magnitude 3 or less.
Well, it cant be predicted when such catastrophic calamity will occur in the near future. All we can do is keep our nature secure, protect our environment for the safe future of humans.
