Apart from that, the campaign by the Alita army at the previous Oscars also made headlines and the noise has surely reached the top Disney Studios executives. There are some reports that claim Disney could plan an Alita sequel for their Disney+ streaming service and here is more on it.
Alita: Battle Angel 2 Release Date and Production Updates
Alita: Battle Angel 2 release date can be set somewhere near 2023-24 as per the previous reports as there are currently no solid plans for the movie. Robert Rodriguez and James Cameron are ready to make the Alita sequel but there are a lot of studio rights and other complexities involved and hence they need to wait for the business aspects to get clear.
Once the producers feel that Alita 2 is a profitable venture, they will surely greenlight the sequel and the movie can start production. But until then there is no release date or trailer as the Alita: Battle Angel sequel needs to be actually renewed and not just be demanded by the fans.
Alita Sequel can Stream on Disney Plus
Disney will own the full rights for Alita soon and it will remain in their hands to make the sequel or not. But times have totally changed after the COVID-19 pandemic and most of the movies are made for streaming service and not a theatrical release. It is not sure when will things get normal and even if they do, the streaming market is slowly taking over.
The success of ‘WandaVision’ and ‘The Falcon and The Winter Solider’ has proved that Disney+ will have huge growth in the future of the streaming market. It won’t be a surprise if the Alita sequel is changed to a TV series that streams on Disney+ as it will be a win-win for everyone.
