Arsenal have sold their long term defender Laurent Koscielny to Ligue 1 club Bordeaux. Bordeaux now have the services of a skilled defender with more than 10 years of high profile experience in Laurent Koscielny.

The 33-year old French Defender hence leaves Arsenal after nine years with the Premiere League giants. The centre back had a medical on Tuesday and left Emirates Stadium soon.
Laurent Koscielny asks for transfer a year earlier
The Gunners had the services of Laurent Koscielny according to a contract that extended upto next year. But the centre back chose to move to his home country earlier than expected. He asked for a free transfer whilst refusing to travel for a pre-season US tour.
“We decided to sanction his move to Bordeaux once we agreed acceptable transfer terms,” Arsenal said in a statement.
“We thank Laurent for his contribution to the club and wish him all the best for the future.”
Laurent Koscielny also played for France in international football but now only plies his trade in club football. His amount of time spent at Arsenal showcase how much he brings to the table. A premiere club doesn’t retain a player for 10 years and then offer another contract just like that.
Koscielny felt undervalued with Arsenal offer
Although Arsenal did offer another contract to the Frenchman, Koscielny felt it undervalued him. Arsenal currently asked the captain to train with the Under-23 boys and promised a return to first-team squad this season.
But Koscielny wasn’t impressed by whatever they offered him and was determined of his desire to leave. He now will also have the comforts of playing in his country with Bordeaux.
This is though a blow to Arsenal ahead of the upcoming season. They also lost Aubameyang to United earlier this year. They are now looking at possible replacements before Premiere League deadline on Thursday.
Celtic left-back Kieran Tierney seems to be on their radar although he suffered injury recently. The Gunners are also looking interested in Nottingham Forest’s right-back Carl Jenkinson. Foreign Clubs though might now be in any hurry since their transfer window closes later on.
