Hall is returning to Hollywood after a decade. His last role was way back in Black Dynamite, the 2009 thriller. Semmy will once again be Prince Akeem’s best friend and assistant which Hall played commendably in the original.

1900s classic Coming to America

The classic released way back in 1988 was a hit among cinema. Murphy’s Prince Akeem was a wealthy African prince whose father wanted to arrange his marriage. Murphy resisted his father’s(James Earl Jones) choice to which James allowed him 40 days to find his dream bride.

James also sent Semmy to look after the prince. Eventually, Prince Akeem managed to find his dream wife Lisa McDowell (Shari Headley).

What to expect from the sequel

Craig Brewer will direct the much-anticipated sequel to the comedy classic. Black-ish creator Kenya Barris will co-direct while Murphy is producing the sequel.

Murphy(Akeem) will travel with Arsenio Hall again in the sequel. The two will move to America from their fictional state in search of a new heir to the kingdom.

Reports previously declared the film will release by August 2020 but that is changed as of now. The sequel will now release in December next year.

Murphy confirmed the news last year after Brewer’s entry into the director’s role.

“After many years of anticipation, I’m thrilled that Coming to America 2 is officially moving forward,” Murphy said in a statement last year.

“We’ve assembled a great team that will be led by Craig Brewer, who just did an amazing job on Dolemite, and I’m looking forward to bringing all these classic and beloved characters back to the big screen.”

Murphy might be waiting for Arsenio Hall to confirm his return. Now that it is confirmed, Coming to America will start soon.

Murphy is also busy with other projects lined up soon. He’s working on a sequel to another 1988 comedy Black Twin and the 4th edition of Beverly Hills Cop.
