The Gaon Music Chart has received some pleasing entries for certification this year. And, you will be more happier to see, the chart contains entries from our favorite bands. The BlackPink, BTS, TWICE or GOT7, they all have made to the lists of Gaon Music Chart certifications.
Why the Gaon Music Chart are so hyped?
The certification system was first installed on January 1, 2018. It reviews and rewards the music pioneers for their album sale achievements and number of downloads made. A further category stores songs with high frequency of online streaming. Our very own, Korea Music Content Industry Association put forward the idea of Gaon Music Chart.
To achieve a platinum certification, an album must sell over 250,000 copies. Furthermore, an album gets a subtle fame for every million copies, they sell worldwide.
BTS (@BTS_twt) has now REACHED 1 Billion CUMULATIVE DIGITAL INDEX in GAON for an album in 2019, the very first artist and album to do so.

The platinum status is also awarded to songs that have surpassed 2.5 million downloads. A higher credit, Diamond status(they say) is awarded for generating 10 million downloads.
Meanwhile, a song can obtain platinum certifications for 100 million streams made. They have also created the category for billion certification~ of highly rare “billion streams.”
