A source from MLB has confirmed that Cubs veteran batter Ben Zobrist will join minor league club South Bend Cubs on Friday. This will be his first class A game since he was restricted on May 8 owing to family matters.
The 38 year old needs to come back into the main Chicago Cubs roster to feature in the post season. Hence this is the first attempt of Ben Zobrist in order to come back into the side.
Ben Zobrist battles off field troubles
Zobrist last played for the Cubs on May 6. His off field troubles had compounded with things getting worse between him and wife, Julianna. They both filed for divorce in separate states recently.

Zobrist was thus understandably struggling but Chicago Cubs president backed their former MVP. He said on July 26 in Milwaukee that Ben Zobrist is working hard in hope of entering the team before the cutoff date i.e. 31st August. Meanwhile, the MLB trade 2019 is closed now.
Although Ben Zobrist will definitely join the minor league it is still unknown when his assignment would start. The minor league assignment can laat up to 30 days and so Ben Zobrist will be looking to start as soon as possible.
Zobrist was the 2016 World Series MVP
The 38 year old wasn’t having a fruitful time when he left the Cubs. He batted just .241 in 83 at-bats. But there’s little doubt the Chicago Cubs value him. And that’s not for no reason.
Zobrist was 2016 World Series MVP and he nailed the game-winning hit then. The Chicago Cubs value the veteran’s wealth of experience, leadership skills amd batting.
“He brings unique things to the table in the clubhouse and on the field. We hope for our sake and his he’s able to complete this process and contribute,” said Eipstein.
