Jim Beam Bourbon facility fire destroys 45000 barrels
Beam Suntory, the spokesman of the company sent an email, claiming the barrels contained young whiskey. Moreover, the loss will not trigger the unavailability of whisky for customers.
On late Tuesday, two warehouses caught fire, one of which is completely destroyed. While the second withstands fire on its external structure. There are some barrels left out but those are not viable for consumption.
According to Bloomberg’s calculation, a single barrel can make around 150 to 210 bottles of bourbon. And can be sold with an estimated price of 15 to 35 US dollars. Therefore, the approximate loss is calculated to be 90 to 300 million dollars. As the barrels contained young whiskey the loss incurred is on a safer side.
The real cause of fire unknown, investigation sustained
Drew Chandler, Director of Emergency Management said the fire, as well as losses, are still burning in the first warehouse. However, trying to stop with water hoses can lead to contamination of rivers nearby.
He also claims that fire supporter will let the fire burn the warehouses for the next few hours. This could save the contamination of water which is availed for drinking purpose.
As per now, the real cause of the fire isn’t known. The company claims the reason can be the weather, as the temperature change may trigger a tremendous spark in the warehouse.
As soon as the fire settles down further investigation will be followed. Moreover, press reports suggest that lighting can be a cause of the Jim Beam Bourbon facility on fire.
