USA kicked off with a 7-0 win over Cuba and defeated Jamaica comprehensively 3-1 in the Semifinals. Still, there was a belief that Mexico will be a different challenge altogether. Santos proved just that with a 73rd-minute goal that decided the fate of the match.

Pizarro was a livewire in the field for Mexico. His brilliant right flank was passed to Wanderers forward Raul Jimenez, who produced a delightful backheel into the path of dos Santos. Santos then did no mistake curling the ball into the top corner.

“Over the course of 90 minutes, Mexico was the better team,” US coach Gregg Berhalter said. “Having said that, we started the game really bright.
