Harriet Tubman $20 bill
Few days before, people were unsure whether Harriet Tubman $20 note would debut in 2020 under Trump’s presidency.
The note was supposed to be redesigned bearing Tubman’s face. However, Trump government announced that it is not coming out for the next ten years.
The planning to replace former President Andrew Jackson to Tubman on the $20 bill was started many years back. She was expected to become the first black woman to have her face on the American currency.
The release date of the 100th anniversary was about to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the 19th Amendment that allowed the women to vote in America.
More than 600,000 people voted for the campaign. However, Mnuchin stated that the new $20 bill might not get issued on the new currency note until 2028.
Harriet Tubman will be appearing on $20 bills against all odds
Dano Wall has designed a 3-D stamp that can be used to lay the portrait of Tubman over Andrew Jackson’s on $20 bills. He stated that he sold the stamps and his goal is to sell 5,000 stamps. He started producing the stamps in 2017 after Mnuchin refused to put Tubman on the $20 bill.
The bill would have marked a significant change which would disrupt the pattern of white people who appear on the currency notes. Tubman’s intelligence and grit will be praised more after the implementation. On October 2018, Wall started selling the stamps. Till now, he has sold more than 600.
