HBO Max has finally launched! WarnerMedia’s splashy looking freshly launched streaming service offers all time hits like Friends, Looney Tunes, Studio Ghibli, and many more. But is HBO Max available on Roku? Is it even possible to view HBO Max on Roku? Or is there any justification for why HBO Max is not on one of the most popular streaming devices in the market? Is there a compatibility issue? WHAT’S EXACTLY WRONG?!?!
While most HBO subscribers have faced no issue logging in to their services using their current credentials, a large group of HBO Now and HBO Go customers struggled with a login issue this morning. If you use Roku for subscribing to HBO now and use Roku as your primary streaming device, you likely ran into problems this morning while trying to get your Friends binge on.
HBO Max and Roku: Is there a compatibility issue?
Well, no. As of this moment, HBO Max is unavailable on our favorite streaming device Roku. Read on to find out why.
I’ve been counting down the days until @hbomax went live. I was more excited about this than I was about Disney+. Except it isn’t available on @roku. ARE. YOU. KIDDING. ME. We only have Roku TVs.

Here’s the catch: AT&T Time Warner Media, HBO Max’s parent company, managed to seal deals with several cable and broadband providers. GooglePlay, Apple, and Samsung all made deals before HBO Max’s launch. However, Roku was not part of any of these deals. Your Apple TV owner friend must have woken up to their HBO Now smoothly updating to HBO Max, but us Roku users are going to miss out on this one.
Why oh why can’t I get @hbomax on my @Roku tv or any of my players?? Who’s fault is it? (So I know which to get rid of? #frustrated

HBO Max: Will Roku ever be HBO Max Compatible?
There is some good news on this front. Roku users might not have to wait that long to access HBO Max. Last night, an HBO Max spokesperson revealed to Decider that AT&T Time Warner is putting efforts behind-the-scenes to provide accessibility of the new service to as many pre-existing subscribers as possible.
