A homeless high school valedictorian from Tennessee has been offered 50 scholarships, amounting over $3m in college scholarships.

17-year old Tupac Mosley, a valedictorian of Raleigh Egypt High School in Memphis, has been living on a campsite with no fixed address.

Despite his unfortunate situation, the recent graduate was able to maintain a 4.3 GPA. He will soon attend Nashville’s Tennessee State University to take up electrical engineering.

Mosley has been homeless for some time after his father passed away. But thanks to non-profit organization For the Kingdom, he was able to find a temporary place to live in.

Mosley was among the disadvantaged children and teenagers in Memphis who were housed in the organization’s camp and retreat centre.

In an interview with Fox 13, Mosley said:

After my father passed, [my family] fell behind on bills and we ended up getting evicted from our home February 21 of this year. So, we went to different homes…and we were blessed to have For the Kingdom.

The high school valedictorian also mentioned that he may not have made it to the college had it not been for the NGO.

For the Kingdom mentioned on its website, that it aims to provide year-round experience to all youths through its camps and retreats. Their activities are all designed to help them to “get away from city life but not from the city.”

Mosley intends to move into a permanent after his graduation.

Excerpts from his speech

As he spoke before his teachers and co-graduates on Sunday (May 19), Mosley said he was overwhelmed by the scholarship offers.

He said:

When I heard that I got $3 million, I was more than elated and excited and astonished that it was that much.

Mosley thanks his teachers for believing in him. He likewise urged the students not to allow personal circumstances to hinder them from achieving their dreams.

“I knew that I had to make them proud. I knew that their investment was worth that and just show them that—yes, everything that you poured into me was worth $3 million and counting,” he added.
