Honda withdraws Takata airbags
NHTS (National Highway Traffic Safety) announced for safety check for every car manufacturer. And the replacement is running ahead of time left. Honda declared a statement saying, the replacement rate is almost 83% with withdrawing calls of vehicles. However, Takata fell into the bankruptcy on June 2017. And death casualties even reached a peak to make this withdrawal for airbags necessary.
The company revealed a data of death tolls and casualties caused by Takata airbags. During the month of March, there were 14 confirmed deaths along with 200 injuries in the US region. As the front airbag ruptured near the driver’s seat, many drivers got injured. Honda also reported that many other manufacturer vehicles are also involved in the injuries and fatalities.
Other manufactures recall over Takata airbags – Largest in the US history
Other companies like Nissan and Mazda also trigger the recall. An estimated withdrawal of 627,000 vehicles in the US has taken place till date. However, Nissan didn’t counter any casualties but the recall is just for precaution. As well as Mazda applies recall for 6000 pickup trucks only in the US.
The root cause of rupturing the airbags is due to the presence of a chemical which acts as a drying agent. This agent exercises the airbag to rupture and cause fatalities. In addition, some airbags blew out shrapnel and injured drivers and passengers sitting in the front. There are also cases of passengers dying while rupturing of the airbags.
Over 10 million vehicles across the globe are recalled for faulty airbags. Thus, making it one of the biggest automotive recall in the US. And from the US region, 37 million vehicles and counting of 19 automakers. However, Honda withdraws Takata airbags are making count with an increase in numbers every other day.
