Michigan Wolverines are in the form of their life. They surprisingly credit the country stat for their formidable 2-0 run at the College World Series.
It’s no baseball star, no coach and actually none of the support staff. He may not even know about Michigan’s remarkable run that sees them a win away from finals. It’s Kenny Chesney, the country superstar.
Kenny Chesney is the savior
The players are dancing to the tunes of country singer and that has helped create a positive atmosphere. Many of the Wolverines are the singer’s fans and the biggest of them seems to be outfielder Johnny Brewer.
“Kenny’s our savior on this team,” Brewer said. “That’s what we say.”
The team also attended the singer’s Ohama concert days before the Big Ben tournament. Brewer became the singer’s fan after attending the Lincoln Trail community college in Indiana. It’s all country there at the college and he has been influenced by culture.
Other teammates of Brewer were also spotted at the concert wearing cowboy hats to blend in the country like atmosphere. Karl Kauffmann, outfielder Jesse Franklin, lefty Angelo Smith and outfielder Christian Dawkins have all come to love the singer.
Michigan Wolverines one win away from finals
The Michigans have closed in on a world championship spot. They are well placed to leave Omaha for greater heights. Their next match is on Friday against one of Florida State or Louisville. To force Michigan’s exit, teams would have to defeat twice.

The players though are happily enjoying the good run. They listen to country songs as part of their practice playlist. And Kenny is featuring all over the list. Sports undoubtedly brings its pressures and it always helps to have a positive mood going on. Kenny is definitely helping the Wolverines in that.
“It’s just Kenny, though,” Brewer concluded.
