Could the next Mortal Kombat game feature some of the most popular Marvel characters?
If one is to look up Twitter feed of Ed Boon, Mortal Kombat’s co-creator, you might begin to believe in such a possibility. Boon’s recent series of random tweets featured quotes from Marvel Cinematic Universe’s characters.
Mortal Kombat: Tweets from Ed Boon
"I bid you farewell and good luck, morons"

Boon quoted beloved Marvel Superheroes like Black Panther, Iron Man, and Spider-Man. Boon’s tweets also featured that main antagonist in Marvel’s blockbusters “Avengers: Infinity War” and “Avengers: Endgame,” Thanos.
"Have you ever seen this really old movie ALIENS?"
– Peter Parker— Ed Boon (@noobde) June 21, 2020
Mortal Kombat has accommodated a number of guest fighters from other renowned media through the past few years. Some of these include famous horror icons such as Jason Voorhess, the serial killer from “Friday the 13th” and Robocop from the 90s sci-fi film series.
"I am Groot"
– Groot— Ed Boon (@noobde) June 21, 2020
In the past, worlds of DC Comics and Mortal Kombat clashed in 2008’s “Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe” while guest appearances by Image Comics’ Spawn and The Joker were featured in “Mortal Kombat 11”.
"….and give this man a shield"
– T'Challa— Ed Boon (@noobde) June 21, 2020
The reverse had happened when in NetherRealm’s DC-based “Injustice” series, Scorpion, Raiden, and Sub-Zero had appeared as DLC fighters. However, Marvel characters have not yet made the leap since as long as fighting games go, they have primarily made appearances in “Marvel vs. Capcom”.
Mortal Kombat titles, since its 2011 reboot, have been published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment. However, AT&T, the franchise owner, is allegedly looking to cut Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment loose, resulting in an uncertain future for the series.
Mortal Kombat: Decoding Boon’s Tweets
On the other hand, it is quite possible that Ed Boon is just goofing around on social media with these funny tweets. After all, for Mortal Kombat’s dark dimensions, characters like Ghost Ride, The Punisher, or Wolverine might be a better fit. Boon could also possibly be teasing a standalone Marvel fighting game, probably along the lines of “Injustice” series.
