Nerlens Noel might have done a big mistake by re-signing with the Oklahoma City Thunder. While the 25-year-old power forward thought it will be a good decision to play alongside Paul George and Russel Westbrook, everything changed in the 2019 NBA free agency. The Thunder traded George to the Clippers and Westbrook to the Rockets are now on a major rebuilding process for the NBA 2019-20 season.
OKC are also looking to trade more of their players including Steven Adams and it makes no sense for Noel to continue with them. It is reported that the Thunder team will also trade out Nerlens Noel before the 2020 February NBA trade deadline and Boston Celtics will be the team that signs him.
Noel would Love to be in Boston Celtics
Nerlens Noel was the sixth overall pick in NBA 2013 draft and has been playing so far decently. Although he has changed a few teams in his six years career, Noel did a great job in the Thunder team last NBA season. Noel had the highest offensive and defensive rating per 100 possessions and he also finished at 21st rank in the NBA with an average of 1.2 blocks per game.
Donovan on why Nerlens Noel didn’t play: “Wanted to get a little more of a look at Justin Patton. I coached Nerlens last year and know what I have in him. Also wanted to get Muscala in the game more.”

Nerlens Noel has been a bit underwhelming compared to just about everybody else in a Thunder uniform.

The Boston Celtics would easily use Noel in their frontcourt and also have the trading assets required to make the deal. What makes the trade almost confirmed is the fact that Noel is a Boston native and would love to play for his home team.
Thunder and Celtics Trade Deals
Boston Celtics are currently looking for a big man that could handle their defense department and Enes Kanter is not the right answer. Nerlens Noel has proved to be a quality rim protector which is another reason why the Celtics would trade for him.
Something important to remember about Steven Adams trade report. When we hear about deals, it’s usually when they are dead, as OKC in this case had too high a price. Secondly, stashing Nerlens Noel assumes Adams is trades and also that no other, better centre comes back.

The Celtics and Thunder are looking for various trade deals as they have also asked for Steven Adams. While that deal might not be possible as OKC are asking too much for Adams, Noel deal can easily be done. Thunder will most likely ask for a young player or a future draft pick which the Celtics would gladly give in exchange for Nerlens Noel.
