Retired Red Sox legend David Ortiz survives gunshot in Dominic Republic

The 10-time All-star of Red Sox was shot in the lower back on Sunday and is now out of danger. Burglars at the bar shot “Big Papi” from behind at point-blank range outside a disco in Santo Domingo, reports Associated Press.

According to Associated Press, the burglars also shot 2 others alongside Ortiz. Another notable personality shot was Television host Jhoel Lopez who was with Ortiz at the club. Ortiz underwent surgery and in stable condition now.

“Big Papi” will be around for a long time

Ortiz father told reporters about his progress and was quick to clear the air about his safety. “He is out of surgery and stable. He is resting, Big Papi will be around for a long time.”

The Red Sox were also informed about the mishap and they were quick to raise a helping hand towards Ortiz. “We have offered David’s family all available resources to aid in his recovery and will continue to keep them in our hearts,” they said.

The CCTV footage was obtained and the incident is capturing showing Ortiz getting shot and the crowd dispersing in chaos.

The Baseball community came all out in support of the Red Sox star. He was a three-time World Series Champion. He also hit a whopping 541 home runs in his career that lasted 20 years and ended in 2016 along with winning the World Series MVP in 2013.

Twitter erupted after the shocking news in prayers for the popular baseball star. Former teammate Pedro Martinez expressed his prayers for Ortiz’ safety on Twitter along with others like Blake Aubry and Josh Reddick.
