Egan Bernal all but sealed his first Tour de France victory by defending his lead ahead of Sunday’s final. The youngest rider at the tourney of Tour de France, Egan Bernal finished along with main contenders on Saturday’s penultimate final.
Teammate Gerant Thomas jumped to second on the table at Tour de France. Vincenzo Nibali also had a good outing with his first stage victory of the year on Saturday.

With Egan Bernal set to finish Sunday’s Paris race with his yellow jersey on, Ineos will savor their 7th win in last 8 years. But that’s not it for Ineos. Bernal’s co-captain Geraint Thomas is now on second in the list. Teammate Steven Kruijswijk closely follows Thomas to take the third spot. That is three on three for Ineos!
Tour de France: 2014 Champion Nibali’s first win of 2019
The 2014 Tour Champion Vincenzo Nibali performed consistently on Saturday’s stage to retain his early lead. Competition for the polka dot jersey also heated up but Nibali survived it all.
Frenchman Juliam Alaphilippe though endured a tough day at the office. After his conceeding his 14 day lead to Egan Bernal on the weather-hit Friday’s race, Alaphilippe fell to fifth position on Saturday.
He kept pushing his limits but after falling at 13k, Alaphilippe lost a significant lead. That he retained his pole position for so long deserves applause though.
But the day belonged to Colombian youngster Egan Bernal. He will not only win the Tour almost surely now but also be a recipient of Best Young Rider of 2019 tour. It will so be a double delight for him and his countrymen with both yellow and white jerseys to brag of.
