The UFC returns with the highly anticipated UFC 249 pay-per-view for the first time after the coronavirus pandemic put the entire sporting world to a halt. The headline of the event is an interim lightweight title clash featuring Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje. Moreover, a co-main event title will be featured as Henry Cejudo fights Dominick Cruz for defending the UFC bantamweight championship.

The event’s original date was 18th April, but was pushed back owing to the coronavirus outbreak. Later, UFC was able to relocate the event and it was moved to the VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Florida, for Saturday – 9th May. The previous event remains unchanged as Ferguson will fight Gaethje for the interim lightweight championship followed by an opportunity to face off with Khabib Nurmagomedov later in the year to become the undisputed UFC lightweight champion.

From UFC 249, a significant portion of the original card will carry over which includes a heavyweight showdown between Jairzinho Rozenstruik and Francis Ngannou, return of Greg Hardy to the Octagon opposite Yorgan de Castro and a fierce featherweight tilt between Calvin Kattar and Jeremy Stephens.

A number of fresh fights have been added to the card. One such fight is a UFC bantamweight title showdown between Cruz and Cejudo. Return of fans’ favorite Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone for the first time after he lost to Conor McGregor when he faces off with former UFC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis.

UFC President Dana White has held, that even though the event will be held without fans because of the COVID-19, that UFC 249 will be the most stacked events of all times.

United States

In the US, the UFC Fight Pass Prelims, commencing at 6:30PM ET, will be simulcast on ESPN+, ESPN, ESPN Deportes and UFC Fight Pass in English and Spanish. The prelims will exclusively run on ESPN+ and ESPN at 8PM ET. ESPN+ PPV main card commences at 10PM ET.

Canada

What Time Will UFC 249 Start?
