Klay Thompson landed awkwardly and was lifted off the field during game 6 of the NBA Finals between Toronto Raptors and Golden State Warriors on Friday. The injury that had Klay lifted off the court on crutches has now been diagnosed with a torn ACL in his left knee. This is a second injury blow Warriors who have already lost the NBA final and Kevin Durant to injury.
Thompson had come out all guns blazing in the do-or-die affair. He outscored his winning counterparts before being stretchered off. Danny Green fouled him in the 3rd quarter after which he couldn’t carry on and left the arena. Durant also had surgery the previous day after he injured his tendon right after returning from a calf injury.
“He might be the toughest guy I’ve ever seen in my life”
Stephen Curry looked visibly shattered at the sight of tragedy. “It’s just tough in terms of a guy like Klay that left it all out there,” Stephen Curry said after the game. “He was playing amazing tonight. And to see a freak play like that where he lands awkwardly. I don’t know the diagnosis yet, but you think about the person and the guy and how much he loves to play the game and that’s the only thoughts you have.”
His injury worried Curry as an individual and what his state of mind would be after such a disheartening experience. “He might be the toughest guy I’ve ever seen in my life”, centre Kevon Looney said after the game.
Durant and Klay Thompson in for long layoffs
Durant and Klay Thompson have the chance to become free agents looking at the long periods they would spend in recovery. Klay Thompson is a tough character on and off the field and is very determined in contributing to his team. So the way he screamed in pain testifies how it had hurt him. He was rested in Warrior’s loss of Game 3 due to a hamstring issue but was adamant to be playing then too.

“I don’t know if it’s related to five straight seasons of playing 100-plus games and just all the wear and tear, but it’s devastating,” Kerr said of Klay’s injury.
