The Winds of Winter release date is not announced officially but the recent statement from George RR Martin has sent fans into a frenzy. The 71-year-old author has teased that the next book in the ASOIAF series could be launched as soon as things are normal after the COVID-19 lockdown ends. GRRM has hinted that The Winds of Winter launch event could happen when things reopen and fans are really very excited.
While Martin doesn’t mention any book name, fans were quick enough to jump to conclusions and hope the old man is talking about TWOW launch. Here are more details on “The Winds of Winter” release date, launch event and the effects of Coronavirus pandemic on the book progress.
George RR Martin Teases TWOW Launch Event when things Reopen
George RR Martin in his latest blog post wrote about Jean Cocteau Cinema, which is his movie theater in New Mexico, which has been closed due to the COVID-19 restrictions. Martin wrote in his blog post that he has been paying salary to the theater staff by letting them virtually work on the JCC YouTube channel.
The line that sent a shockwave through the entire Game of Thrones fandom is when George teased, “We hope to keep adding content to the JCC… including new book events… once we reopen.” Even though the book events could mean anything, fans are hoping that George RR Martin will host “The Winds of Winter” book launch event in the Jean Cocteau Cinema after the Coronavirus outbreak ends.
The Winds of Winter Progress Update and COVID-19 Effects
The Winds of Winter release date is unofficially set as July 2020 as the author promised to deliver the book at Worldcon 2020 in New Zealand. Even though the event has been canceled and turned into a virtual thing now, George RR Martin could still finish writing TWOW before the deadline.
If George R R Martin doesn't come out of this pandemic with a complete Winds of Winter, I'm going to shake my fist really really hard

Martin even said that the Coronavirus lockdown and self-isolation has a silver lining where he is able to give more time to THE WINDS OF WINTER and writing new chapters at a steady pace. It could be possible that GRRM finally finishes the Winds of Winter as the book is bound to come out at some point.
